Il tour, questa volta, segue tutto il corso del grande fiume russo: il Volga; dalle sue origini alla foce, nel Mar Caspio. 4.460 km, tradotti sono 2.400 miglia nautiche, sospese nel cielo.
A bordo del nostro Piper, PA28R Arrow III, abbiamo voluto fortemente visitare l'intero tragitto del fiume da una posizione privilegiata.
Le immagini suggestive, raccolte nelle 30 e più ore di video, ci reccontano la storia geografica del più grande fiume d'Europa. Dall'aeroporto di Krapivnya comincia la nostra avventura. Il lago "Ozero" Volga è subito fronte la nostra prua. Qui nasce il fiume. Dal comune di Selishche inizia il corso del fiume, che sorvoliamo fino a Selizharovo.
Costeggiamo il fiume che ci appare ad Est fino a Balashi dove lo incrociamo. A Syt'kovo lo troviamo già ad Ovest, rispetto la nostra bussola che ci indirizza verso Sud. Il Volga, proprio nella cittadina di Rzev, si snoda in una serie di serpentine e poi riprende la discesa più regolare a Yurvatino.
A Zubcov viriamo ad Est, per atterrare all'aeroporto di Starica. Riprendiamo il volo spostando la prua verso Nord, dobbiamo ritrovare il corso del Volga. A Rodnya è sotto le nostre ali. Ecco Starica, la città. Di seguito Tver', seguiamo lo snodarsi del Volga fino al bacino idrico di Ivan'kovo, poi a NOrd arriviamo all'Ozero (Lago) di Azarovo. Uglič in russo У́глич è un'antica città della Russia situata nell'Oblast' di Jaroslavl', nella Russia europea, siamo pronti alla discesa, raggiunta la Riserva naturale del bacino di Rybinsk situato alla confluenza dei fiumi Volga e Šeksna, impostiamo l'approach per l'aeroporto nazionale di Čerepovec, che serve l'omonima città dell'Oblast' di Vologda.
Quando ripartiamo rifacciamo il sorvolo del bacino, nuovamente Rybinsk,Tutayev nell'Yaroslavl Oblast. Il Volga diventa più importante qundo lambisce le coste di queste città fluviali: Zarnitsino, Krasnyi, Jaroslavl capoluogo dell'omonimo oblast.
Qui ci attende la pista 06 dell'Aeroporto di Tunoshna. la ripartenza prevede una virata a destra per rintracciare il fiume che in questa regione si spinge a nord. Un'ampia ansa lambisce Kostroma e poi riprende la discesa verso il mare, incontrando Krasnoe-na-Volge, nella Russia europea centro-settentrionale, nell'oblast' di Kostroma, capoluogo del rajon Krasnosel'skij, Rusinovka, Kinešma capoluogo del Kinešemskij rajon, a circa 100 chilometri di distanza dal capoluogo Ivanovo.
Sorvolando Spirikha si può ammirare il Volga che qui si apre formando un bacino frastagliato, detto di Gor'kij, più a sud, dove il fiume vira incontriamo Pučež: una città del rajon Pučežskij, del quale è il capoluogo.
A seguire Gorodec, situata nell'oblast' di Nižnij Novgorod, sulla sponda sinistra del fiume Volga di fronte a Zavolž'e.
Qui inizia il nostro approach e il landing presso L'Aeroporto internazionale di Nižnij Novgorod-Strighino situato a 15 km ad ovest di Nižnij Novgorod, siamo ancora nella in Russia europea.
La prossima tratta l'affrontiamo sorvolando la città di Nižnij Novgorod, con una vitata di 360° per godere dell'Oka, affluente importante che qui si lega al Volga. Riprendiamo a seguire il corso dcel fiume e le sue evoluzioni incontrando nell'ordine: Rabotki, il monastero di Makar'evo, la chiesa di Tserkov' V Chest' Svyatitelya Nikolaya, Kamenka, Ozero Zavod, Koz'modem'jansk nella Russia della Repubblica dei Mari, posta alla confluenza del fiume Vetluga, già pronti per atterrare all'L'Aeroporto di Čeboksary, a 7 km dalla omonima la capitale della Repubblica Ciuvascia.
La prossima tratta è la settima: backtrack fino alla Rwy24 e decollo. Virata a sinistra su Yagudary, sorvoo veloce di Čeboksary,per rimetterci immediatamente sulle acque del Volga. Volžsk si trova sulla riva sinistra, proseguiamo per virare su Kazàn': capitale della repubblica del Tatarstan, sesta città della Russia per popolazione. Nel prossimo sorvolo del fiume giungiamo sopra una incantevole località turistica: Yur'yevskaya Peshchera. Nel luogo si crea un enorme bacino formatosi dalla confluenza del Volga con il fiume Kama, Sorvoliamo velocemente la zona iniziando la discesa per l'aeroporto internazionale di Ul'janovsk-Vostočnyj, situato a 28 km a nord-est della città di Ul'janovsk.
Fino ad ora abbiamo fatto un meraviglioso tour, scoprendo i segreti del Volga, le sue città, i suoi affluenti, da una altitudine di circa 2.500 piedi, ma non è ancora finita ed il suo corso, prima di affrontare il mare, è abbastanza lungo 1.032 miglia nautiche.
Ripartiamo da Vostočnyj per incrociare, nella sponda opposta del Volga, la città Ul'janovsk, in precedenza chiamata Simbirsk. Sorvoliamo lungo il tratto fluviale che porta alla città di Sengilej ,circa 8.000 abitanti dell'Oblast' di Ul'janovsk, già Russia europea meridionale, capoluogo del rajon Sengileevskij, dove il fiume forma un bacino chiamato Reka-Cheremshan. Nel proseguire sul corso del Volga incontriamo il comune di Togliatti, noto in Italia con il nome erroneo di Togliattigrad. È una città russa nei pressi del fiume Volga; fa parte della regione di Samara ed è la seconda città dell'oblast', nonché capoluogo dello Stavropol'skij rajon. Al 2013 la popolazione contava 719 149 persone.Il fiume forma delle isole fronteggiando la meravigliosa località di Gora Strel'naya. Così raggiungiamo Zol'noe, Volzhskii,Samara, che dal 27 gennaio 1935 al 25 gennaio 1990 era chiamata Kujbyšev, in onore del rivoluzionario sovietico Valerian Kujbyšev. E' la sesta città più grande della Russia.
Nei paraggi c'è un vecchio campo volo, nella località di Usinskiy, Rosdestveno UROZ. Verifichiamo il circuito di atterraggio prima di effettuare il finale.
Si riparte poi verso Sud, la campagna è padrona dei luoghi e il fiume ci scorre nel mezzo con grande vigore: Kanuevka e poi Syzran' è una nella Russia europea sudorientale. Il fiume fa mille evoluzioni e noi dall'alto lo seguiamo ammirandolo. La città di Balakovo, sulle sponde del bacino di Saratov, sfrutta lo sbarramento della centrale idroelettrica costruita negli anni sessanta.
Vol'sk in russo Вольск è una città dell'Oblast di Saratov, che ci scorre sotto le ali, sulla sponda destra del Volga, nella zona dove confluisce il fiume Bol'šoj Irgiz, suo affluente. L'aeroporto di Saratov-Gagarin, situato nei pressi della città di Saratov nella Russia europea, operativo dal 20 agosto 2019. L'aeroporto è dedicato all'astronauta Jurij Gagarin
Prossima tratta fino all'aeroporto di Gumrak. A 2.500ft su Saratov e Engels. Il fiume piega a sinistra nei pressi di Dubovka e noi con lui. Doppiando il promontorio di Butkovka, il Volga costringe il terreno in una folta vegetazione fluviale, divisa in verdi isolotti. Il nostro Piper ci ermette di effettuare un loop su noi stessi proprio per osservarne la straordinaria natura sottostante.
Poi un lungo tragitto fino a lasciare le sponde del fiume per atterrare all'aeroporto sulla pista 23.
Ci siamo.
Il delta è a poche miglia nautiche. Ancora due tratte e arriviamo al mare. Il take-off è suggestivo, sopra i tetti della città di Volgograd, già Caricyn dal 1598 al 10 aprile 1925. Stalingrado dal 1925 al 1961, oggi circa un milione di abitanti, capoluogo dell'oblast' omonima.
Da questo momento il Volga riempie le campagne, rendendole feconde, verdi, miniere di vita. La direzione è ad Est, il Mar Caspio ci attende. Lungo il corso vari insediamenti rurali: Svetlyj Jar nell'Oblast' di Volgograd, Kamennyi Yar, Stupino, Nikol'skoe, fino a scorgere sulla mappa il waypoint necessario all'approach, nelle vicinanze di Charabali situata sulla riva sinistra del fiume Achtuba, 142 chilometri a nordovest del capoluogo Astrachan'.
La virata sul Reka Kharabalyn ci indica l'imminente discesa: poche miglia ad Est, verso l'aeroporto di Kordon Kharabalinskiy, chiamato Asuluk Tambovka.
Ultima tappa: riprendiamo il volo verso il corso del fiume presso Novostroi, e da qui proseguiamo dove ci aspetta il mare. Giusto una ispezione dell'aeroporto "Astrachan'- Narimanovoche" che chiuderà il nostro tour, proprio nella città omonima di Astrachan', capoluogo dell'omonimo oblast', a 90 km dalla sua foce nel Mar Caspio, prima di arrivare sulle spiagge saline. Una perlustrazione suggestiva e scendiamo per atterrare definitivamente.
The tour, this time, follows the entire course of the great Russian river: the Volga; from its origins to its mouth, in the Caspian Sea. 4,460 km, translated is 2,400 nautical miles, hanging in the sky.
On board our Piper, PA28R Arrow III, we strongly wanted to visit the entire route of the river from a privileged position.
The evocative images, collected in 30 or more hours of video, tell us the geographical history of the largest river in Europe. Our adventure begins from Krapivnya airport. The "Ozero" Volga lake is immediately in front of our bow. The river is born here. From the municipality of Selishche the course of the river begins, which we fly over to Selizharovo.
We follow the river that appears to us to the east up to Balashi where we cross it. In Syt'kovo we find it already to the West, with respect to our compass which directs us towards the South. The Volga, right in the town of Rzev, winds in a series of serpentines and then resumes its more regular descent at Yurvatino.
At Zubcov we turn east, to land at the Starica airport. We resume flight by moving the prow to the north, we have to find the course of the Volga again. In Rodnya he is under our wings. Here is Starica, the city. Below Tver', we follow the winding of the Volga up to the Ivan'kovo reservoir, then to the NORth we arrive at the Ozero (Lake) of Azarovo. Uglič in Russian У́глич is an ancient city of Russia located in the Yaroslavl Oblast, in European Russia, we are ready for the descent, having reached the Rybinsk Basin Nature Reserve located at the confluence of the Volga and Šeksna rivers, we set the approach to the national airport of Cherepovets, which serves the city of the same name in the Vologda Oblast.
When we leave again we fly over the basin again, again Rybinsk, Tutayev in the Yaroslavl Oblast. The Volga becomes more important when it touches the coasts of these river cities: Zarnitsino, Krasnyi, Yaroslavl, capital of the oblast of the same name.
Runway 06 of Tunoshna Airport awaits us here. the restart involves a turn to the right to trace the river which in this region goes north. A wide bend touches Kostroma and then resumes its descent towards the sea, meeting Krasnoe-na-Volge, in central-northern European Russia, in the Kostroma oblast, capital of Krasnosel'skij district, Rusinovka, Kinešma capital of Kinešemskij district , about 100 kilometers away from the capital Ivanovo.
Flying over Spirikha you can admire the Volga which here opens up forming a jagged basin, called Gor'kij, further south, where the river veers we meet Pučež: a city of the Pučežskij rajon, of which it is the capital.
Next is Gorodec, located in the Nizhny Novgorod oblast, on the left bank of the Volga river opposite Zavolž'e.
Here begins our approach and landing at the Nizhny Novgorod-Strighino International Airport located 15 km west of Nizhny Novgorod, we are still in European Russia.
We tackle the next route by flying over the city of Nizhny Novgorod, with a 360° vineyard to enjoy the Oka, an important tributary that here connects to the Volga. We continue to follow the course of the river and its evolutions, meeting in order: Rabotki, the Makar'evo monastery, the church of Tserkov' V Chest' Svyatitelya Nikolaya, Kamenka, Ozero Zavod, Koz'modem'jansk in the Russia of the Republic of the Seas, located at the confluence of the Vetluga river, ready to land at Cheboksary Airport, 7 km from the capital of the Chuvash Republic of the same name.
The next leg is the seventh: backtrack to Rwy24 and takeoff. We turn left onto Yagudary, quickly pass Cheboksary, to immediately return to the waters of the Volga. Volzhsk is located on the left bank, we continue to veer towards Kazan': capital of the republic of Tatarstan, sixth largest city in Russia by population. In the next flight over the river we arrive above an enchanting tourist location: Yur'yevskaya Peshchera. An enormous basin is created in the place formed by the confluence of the Volga with the Kama river. We quickly fly over the area starting the descent to the Ulyanovsk-Vostočnyj international airport, located 28 km north-east of the city of Ulyanovsk .
So far we have had a wonderful tour, discovering the secrets of the Volga, its cities, its tributaries, from an altitude of about 2,500 feet, but it is not over yet and its course, before face the sea, it is quite long 1,032 nautical miles.
We leave Vostočnyj to cross, on the opposite bank of the Volga, the city Ulyanovsk, previously called Simbirsk. We fly over the river stretch that leads to the city of Sengilej, approximately 8,000 inhabitants of the Ulyanovsk Oblast, formerly southern European Russia, capital of Sengileevskij district, where the river forms a basin called Reka- Cheremshan. Continuing along the Volga we come across the municipality of Togliatti, known in Italy by the erroneous name of Togliattigrad. It is a Russian city near the Volga River; it is part of the Samara region and is the second city of the oblast, as well as the capital of the Stavropolsky district. As of 2013, the population numbered 719,149 people. The river forms islands facing the wonderful resort of Gora Strel'naya. Thus we reach Zol'noe, Volzhskii, Samara, which from 27 January 1935 to 25 January 1990 was called Kujbyšev, in honor of the Soviet revolutionary Valerian Kujbyšev. It is the sixth largest city in Russia.
Nearby there is an old airfield, in the town of Usinskiy, Rosdestveno UROZ. Let's check the landing circuit before making the final.
We then set off again towards the South, the countryside dominates the places and the river flows through them with great vigor: Kanuevka and then Syzran' is one in south-eastern European Russia. The river makes a thousand evolutions and we follow it from above admiring it. The city of Balakovo, on the banks of the Saratov basin, uses the dam of the hydroelectric power plant built in the sixties.
Vol'sk in Russian Вольск is a city in the Saratov Oblast, which flows under our wings, on the right bank of the Volga, in the area where the Bol'šoj Irgiz river, its tributary, meets. Saratov-Gagarin Airport, located near the city of Saratov in European Russia, operational since August 20, 2019. The airport is dedicated to astronaut Yuri Gagarin
Next route to Gumrak airport. At 2,500ft over Saratov and Engels. The river turns left near Dubovka and we with it. Rounding the Butkovka promontory, the Volga forces the land into thick river vegetation, divided into green islets. Our Piper allows us to loop on ourselves precisely to observe the extraordinary underlying nature.
Then a long journey until leaving the banks of the river to land at the airport on runway 23.
Here we are.
The delta is a few nautical miles away. Two more sections and we arrive at the sea. The take-off is suggestive, above the roofs of the city of Volgograd, formerly Caricyn from 1598 to 10 April 1925. Stalingrad from 1925 to 1961, today about one million inhabitants, capital of the homonymous oblast.
From this moment the Volga fills the countryside, making them fertile, green, mines of life. The direction is East, the Caspian Sea awaits us. Along the course various rural settlements: Svetlyj Jar in the Volgograd Oblast, Kamennyi Yar, Stupino, Nikol'skoe, until you see the waypoint necessary for the approach on the map, near Charabali located on the left bank of the Achtuba river, 142 kilometers northwest of the capital Astrakhan.
The turn on Reka Kharabalyn indicates the imminent descent: a few miles to the East, towards the Kordon Kharabalinskiy airport, called Asuluk Tambovka.
Last stop: we resume our flight towards the river near Novostroi, and from here we continue where the sea awaits us. Just an inspection of the "Astrakhan-Narimanovoche" airport which will close our tour, right in the city of the same name of Astrakhan, the capital of the oblast of the same name, 90 km from its mouth in the Caspian Sea, before arriving on the saline beaches. An evocative patrol and we descend to land definitively.
